Natural Dying Workshop with Kate Turnbull - Friday 27th November - 10:00 to 16:00

Kick off Christmas at Kelmscott Manor with one of our festive artist led workshops.

Join botanical dyer Kate Turnbull from the Secret Dyery to learn the art of natural dyeing, colour extraction and hue modification.  Together, you will explore the subtle science of mordanting, layering and over-dyeing to create beautiful and vibrant colours.  This is more than a workshop: its a journey into the craft, colour, and creativity of the past, offering a chance to connect with centuries-old techniques and leave with beautifully dyed materials 

Please note that whilst ight refreshments (tea, coffee and mince pies) will be provided, you will need to bring a packed lunch with you.  Whilst the Manor and tearoom with be closed, the shop will be selling a limited range of items, making perfect Christmas gifts.

Kate Turnbull is a natural dyeing practioner, educator and advocate, deeply committed to sustainability.  Having trained for a master's degree at Central St Martins and with over 25 years of industrial and teaching experience, Kate now works on collaborative projects at The Secret Dyery, her dye house in Oxfordshire.  She offers bespoke plant-based solutions to designers, artisans and brands, demonstrating the scalability of natural dyeing in luxury interiors and fashion.  Collaborations include working with The Modern Artisan, Yoox, Net a Porter, The Kings Foundation, Chelsea Flower Show, Liberty, Leek Textile Week, The Centre for Sustainability, Sustainable Fashion Week, Oxfam, Kelmscott Manor and Kew Gardens.  Education is at the heart of Kate's philosophy, having introduced the first ever Eco A level as one of her accolades.  Kate is represented by The Guild of Master Craftsmen and is a member of the Society of Dyers
