Kick off Christmas at Kelmscott Manor with one of our festive craft workshops. Join Penny Maltby for a day of creativity with straw and make a Straw Folk Angel with fabric accents to decorate your home, give as a gift or use as a tree topper.
The day will also include making some fun small straw adornments to hang on the tree or adorn a handle of mantlepiece.
You will learn how to prepare the heritage wheat and tie a straw workers knot as well as a variety of traditional plaiting techniques across the day.
Penny will also talk to you about straw working traditions and how you can continue this endangered craft at home.
Some manual dexterity is required for this workshop, and it is suitable for beginners, those who have worked with straw before and anyone with an interest in craft and working with natural materials.
All materials are included but do feel free to bring any special fabric or ribbons you may wish to include.
Please note straw can be dusty so you may wish to bring an apron or wear old clothes
This workshop does require a level of manual dexterity
£95.00 per person, all materials included. Tea, coffee and mince pies will be provided and are included in the ticket price.
Whilst the Manor building and tearoom will be closed, there will be a limited range of items from our shop available to purchase, making perfect Christmas gifts.
